• Humpback Whales are my passion. Since I’ve gotten to know them, my life has changed tremendously. Whales have the ability to make you laugh and cry, and they always leave you in awe. They are the reason I started Conscious Breath Adventures. I simply wanted to share this incredible adventure with others.

I am Captain M. Eugene Flipse III, and I have a lifetime of experience on the water as a US Coast Guard licensed Captain. I’ve been an avid watersports enthusiast all of my life, as well as a competitive swimmer and water polo player; a certified life guard; a certified sailing instructor; and an active freediver and certified scuba diver. I live for the water.

My partner, Captain Jeff Pantukhoff, is a licensed Coast Guard Captain, a Naui Dive Instructor & Dive Master, a whale and dolphin researcher, and an international award-winning marine life filmmaker and photographer specializing in dolphins, whales and sharks. He has also guided over 50 dolphin & whale eco-adventure travel tours throughout the world.

It is our passion and our hard work ethic that always keeps guests satisfied. Our goal is to make sure they have the most rewarding experience possible.

Conscious Breath Adventures’ guests select us because they trust our experience. They know that with us, they are getting something truly unique.” Captain Flipse and Captain Pantukhoff have years of direct experience with the humpback whales of the Silver Bank, gained over the course of six seasons. They have over a decade of experience in whale watching cruises and guiding guests to in-water encounters with wild Atlantic spotted dolphins and bottlenose dolphins in the Bahamas. They have also worked and played with pacific spinner dolphins; pan-tropical spotted dolphins; minke whales; pilot whales; sea turtles; whale sharks; manta rays; and a wide variety of sharks. “So when customers come to us, they know what they are getting and they are excited about it.”

Conscious Breath Adventures is so named because of the “conscious breathing” that cetaceans are well known for. The company’s whole philosophy revolves around consciousness and awareness, and they provide both safety and a relaxed atmosphere during their famous “soft-in-water encounters.”

Their ship will be your home away from home. It is a 120 feet vessel, with a beam of 28 feet and a draft of 9 feet, displacing 260 tons. Originally built for offshore service, this heavy steel vessel is solidly built and kind in her sea-keeping manners. It is fully compliant with all requirements of SOLAS and is outfitted with a complete line of modern marine electronics.

One of the ship’s best features is its upper deck area. It is an ideal alfresco place for guests to relax, offering a comfortable elevated vantage point for whale watching when not aboard the tenders. The upper deck will be the setting of our nightly sundowner celebrations and stargazing opportunities, and is also equipped with a secondary bar.

Captain Flipse’s and Captain Pantukhoff’s combined experiences and mutual dedication to the marine world have earned them the respect of their guests, as well as the respect of professionals in all sectors of the diving industry. Conscious Breath Adventures welcomes numerous guests who are eager to go on a truly unique, whale watching tour that goes much deeper, much closer, and more intimate. This is for people to engage in their first in-water whale encounter with the captains. They continue to inspire customers through their devotion, and they still enjoy the thrill of a swim with some of the world’s most fascinating creatures.

This is a video from a person who has done the Swim With Whale program in Silver Bank.  Enjoy!

Swim With Whales on Today Show, March 25, 2008

The Today Show did a nice piece this morning on the Silver Bank.

"From late January to early April, the North Atlantic humpback whales migrate south. This is also their mating season, when males vie and joust to accompany female whales during the migration. This migration and mating dance is extremely surface oriented, allowing visitors unparalleled access to these majestic creatures." ~ MSNBC

In the piece they also covered the fact the the Japanese Govt. is in June trying to legalize Whale hunting again. Being a Humpback Whale lover I can't believe in 2008 this could even be possible.

In contrast, The Dominican Republic has done some amazing conservation tactics: "On October 14, 1986, the Dominican Republic recognized the vital importance of the Silver Bank by establishing the Silver Bank Sanctuary. Ten years later the Dominican Republic strengthened that commitment on July 5, 1996 when a presidential decree enlarged the Sanctuary to it's current size and renamed it the Sanctuary for the Marine Mammals of the Dominican Republic."
